Nós fizemos uma entrevista exclusiva com Magnus Åserud Skylstad, um dos produtores musicais de AURORA. Confira:
PABR: Em que momento você decidiu que queria trabalhar com música? É algo de que gostava desde criança?
Magnus: Eu comecei a tocar teclado e piano no jardim de infância. Eu nunca aprendi a ler as notas, então sou um autodidata. Mais tarde, quando tinha 16, eu acidentalmente comecei a tocar bateria. E foi aí que soube que queria fazer isso pelo resto da minha vida. Eu trabalho com produção musical há apenas 5 anos.
PABR: Quando a inspiração vem pra você? Você trabalha muito a música antes de considerá-la pronta? Você se considera perfeccionista?
Magnus: Inspiração vem em todo lugar e a qualquer tempo. Às vezes eu tenho que levantar da cama à noite para gravar algumas ideias. Sim, eu trabalho bastante com as músicas que sou sortudo por produzir. Têm tantos detalhes que precisam de atenção. Eu não acho que poderia jamais finalizar 100% uma produção. Eu sempre desejo ter só mais um dia ou mais uma semana, mas tem um ponto em que você tem que parar.
PABR: Quem são suas influências na música?
Magnus: Edvard Grieg e Michael Jackson. Edvard Grieg pode ser tão emotivo, Michael Jackson pode ser emotivo E me fazer querer dançar.
PABR: Como AURORA surgiu pra você? Você já havia trabalhado com outros artistas antes, certo?
Magnus: Meu empresário Geir Luedy (MADE Management) me perguntou se eu poderia fazer uma sessão com uma jovem. Nós reservamos o estúdio e gravamos 5 ou 6 de suas músicas apenas com os vocais e piano. Eu selecionei uma das músicas com a qual queria trabalhar. Essa música foi "Runaway". Ela (Aurora) me impressionou imediatamente.
PABR: AURORA disse em entrevista recente que um álbum nunca está “pronto” e que você sempre pode melhorá-lo e mudar algumas coisas, como têm sido isso? Vocês já discordaram de algo em uma música de como ela soaria melhor? Como vocês resolvem isso?
Magnus: Acho que poderíamos ter trabalhado nesse álbum por anos se ninguém nos parasse. Às vezes nós discordamos, mas no final Aurora dá a última palavra. Afinal, é a música dela que estamos gravando.
PABR: Você produziu uma das faixas mais conhecidas de AURORA, Runaway. Como foi o processo de criação?
Magnus: A música foi primeiramente gravada em versão demo para diferentes gravadoras. Ela tocou piano e cantou em nosso estúdio em Bergen e, então, eu fiz a maior parte da produção no meu estúdio que fica em casa. Depois, quando a música foi escolhida para o CD, nós fizemos uma nova gravação, mas mantivemos algumas das ideias usadas na versão demo. O. Martin (também produtor de Aurora), Aurora e eu tocamos todos os instrumentos nessa música e nós até mesmo cantamos!
PABR: Para o comercial de natal desse ano da John Lewis, vocês regravaram Half the World Away. Vocês ficaram felizes com a escolha da música?
Magnus: Eu estou muito feliz com o que nós conseguimos realizar. Eu sinto que é uma produção bastante aberta e a linda voz de Aurora tem o maior foco, assim como deve ser sempre.
PABR: Quando vocês estão indo para um show, de carro por exemplo, vocês costumam conversar e compartilhar a mesma música no alto falante do carro? Como é o pré show? Vocês tem algum ritual antes de subir no palco?
Magnus: Bem, quando nós vamos de carro, eu sou sempre o motorista. Selma (sintetizadora/cantora de apoio) gosta de comer, mascar chiclete, Alf (tecladista) geralmente assiste um filme ou alguma série em seu MacBook, O. Martin (guitarrista/cantor de apoio) fala bastante sobre comida e Aurora está sempre trabalhando ou dormindo. Antes de uma apresentação, nós tentamos relaxar, comer comidas boas e, antes de subirmos ao palco, nós cantamos uma música natalina norueguesa, mesmo quando é verão!
PABR: Qual música já produzida por você, você mais gosta e que as pessoas deveriam ouvir?
Magnus: Eu trabalhei com uma banda chamada THE WELL. Eles serão grandes em um futuro próximo. Eles têm uma voz muito forte e eu amo as músicas deles. Escutem “Separate Ways” no Spotify!
PABR: Pedimos a nossos leitores para que nos enviassem perguntas para que você respondesse e a pergunta escolhida foi a do leitor Mateus Nóbrega:
Mateus Nóbrega: Quais são as maiores dificuldades e maiores habilidades que você vê em AURORA em todo processo de criação musical?
Magnus: Eu sinto-me sortudo por ser uma das pessoas que a viram crescer diariamente desde o dia que ela gravou sua primeira demo conosco no estúdio. Ela aprende MUITO rápido e eu nunca conheci alguém tão jovem que tenha tanto controle sobre tudo e que tenha uma visão tão clara.
PABR: Antes de encerrarmos, você gostaria de falar um pouco sobre seus projetos ou mandar um recado ao Brasil? Fique à vontade.

We've made an exclusive interview with Magnus Åserud Skylstad, one of the musical producers of AURORA. Check out:
PABR: When did you decided that you wanted to work with music? Is it something you’ve liked since you were a kid?
Magnus: I started to play keyboard and piano in kindergarden. I never learned how to read notes so I’m self taught. Later, when I was 16, I accidentally started to play drums. And that was when I knew I wanted to do this for the rest of my life. I’ve only worked with music production 5 years now.
PABR: When does inspiration come to you? Do you work a lot in a song before you consider it to be ready? Do you think you’re a perfectionist?
Magnus: Inspiration comes everywhere and at any time. Sometimes I have to get up of bed at night to record some ideas. Yes, I work a lot with the songs I’m lucky to produce. There are so many details that needs attention. I don’t think I can ever be 100% finished with a production. I always wish I had just one more day or one more week, but at some point you have to stop.
PABR: Who are your influences in music?
Magnus: Edvard Grieg and Michael Jackson. Edvard Grieg can be so emotional, Michael Jackson can be emotional AND make me want to dance.
PABR: How did AURORA came up in your life? You had already worked with other artists when she came up, hadn’t you?
Magnus: My manager Geir Luedy (MADE Management) asked me if I could do a session with a young girl. We booked the studio and recorded 5-6 of her songs only with vocal and piano. I picked one of the songs I wanted to work with. That song was ‘Runaway’. She impressed me right away.
PABR: AURORA said in a recent interview that an album is never ready and that you can always make it better by changing something, how has this been for you? Have you already disagreed about something that might or might not the song better? How did you resolv it?
Magnus: I guess we could have worked on this album for years if no one stopped us. Sometimes we disagree but at the end of the day Aurora makes the final call. It’s her music we are recording.
PABR: You’ve produced one of the most famous AURORA’S music, Runaway. How was the creation process?
Magnus: The song was first recorded as a demo for record companies. She played the piano and vocals in our studio in Bergen and then I did most of the production in my home studio. Later, when the song made it to the album, we did a new recording but kept some of the ideas from the demo. O.Martin (also Auroras producer), Aurora and I played all the instruments and on this song we even got to sing!
PABR: For the 2015 John Lewis’ Christmas ad, you’ve recorded Half the World Away. Were you happy with the music selection?
Magnus: I’m really happy with what we have accomplished. I feel it is a very open production and Aurora’s beautiful vocal is the main focus. As it should be always.
PABR: When you’re all going to a concert by car, for exemple, do you usually chat and share music through a car speaker? How’s the pre-concert? Do you have a ritual before going on stage?
Magnus: Well, when we go by car I’m always the driver. Selma (synth/backingvocals) likes to eat chewing gum, Alf (keyboards) usually watch a film or a series on his macbook, O.Martin (guitar/backingvocals) talks a lot about food and Aurora is always working or sleeping. Before concert we try to relax, eat good food and before we go on stage we sing a norwegian christmas song, even in the summertime!
PABR: Which music produced by you do you like the most and think that people should listen to?
Magnus: I work with a band called THE WELL. They are going to be huge some day soon. Really strong voice and I love their songs. Listen to "Separate Ways" on Spotify!
PABR: We asked our readers to send us questions for you and the chosen one was the one from Mateus Nóbrega.
Mateus Nóbrega: What are the difficulties and abilities you’ve seen in AURORA during the whole process of musical creation?
Magnus: I feel lucky to be one of the people who have seen her grow everyday from the day she recorded the first demo with us in the studio. She learns REALLY fast and I have never meet anyone so young who takes so much control and have a clear direction.
PABR: Before we end the interview, would you like to talk about any of your other projects or send a message to Brazil? Feel free.
